Radio Frequency Identification system commonly known as RFID is used for automatic data capture allowing contactless identification of goods using RF to replace barcode labelling. It is a key instrument for ensuring more efficiency and customer satisfaction. It enables the user to follow the path of product without interruption from the manufacturer all the way to the shelves in the store.

An RFID system consists of a so called “RFID Reader” which converts the signal from the Ethernet to an RF signal. Every reader needs an antenna to transmit the signal and induce the power to activate the chip on the transponder. The chip modulates all the stored data onto the signal and transmits it back to the reader via the integrated antenna within the transponder. RFID is working in various frequencies from only a few kHz to up to 6GHz.

The RFID industry today represents a dynamic attempt by manufacturers and users to build and deploy solutions reflecting trade offs between a wide range of technical, political and regulatory constraints. HUBER+SUHNER takes part in this dynamic environment by providing components such as antennas, cables and connectors to reader manufacturers, system integrators and end users.

In regards to Antenna products, HUBER+SUHNER has a streamlined focus on UHF RFID which utilises 869MHz in Europe and 928MHz in the US, as well as 2.4GHz RFID.
