OM3 Fibers

The data rate growth for computer networks is still continuing. It is only two years since the 1 GB/s Ethernet standard agreement and the 10 GB/s Ethernet is already expected in the next year. This data rate growth is causing problems concerning the standardization of premises wiring. The infrastructure life cycle should guarantee several network development steps and at the same time, the transmission media are close to the limit with their today's data rates.

To fulfill these requirements, the standardization of the 10 Gbit Ethernet demands fibers which are designed for future requirements.The OM3 fiber with a 50µm fiber core and improved gradient fibers is the solution for these challenges.

Based on the MaxCap technology, HUBER+SUHNER offers a cable with the new OM3 fiber. The OM3 fiber has been developed according to the newest 10 Gbit standards and allows the data transmission over a distance up to 300 m at 850 nm.

Due to its excellent optical characteristics, other than the conventional 600/1200 nm fibers, the OM3 is applicable for backbone connections based on a cost-efficient multi-mode technology up to 10 Gbit.
